i generally keep a pretty low social profile. i like to maintain an effective signal-to-noise ratio. there are three wonderful people that i would love to spend new year’s eve with. i suppose two of them will end up thinking i’m a jerk. i’m not sure how to handle delicate social situations like this.

i find that informercials’ use of the “and if you order now, we’ll give you two” tactic is generally ineffective. no matter how compelling the messaging before, this line always convinces me to not buy. i mean, if i thought i was getting a deal on one and they’re still making a profit giving me two, i obviously have no conception of the value of the product. ...
